Gerald Connors MS, RN, LHRM – Student Nurse

Gerald (Gerry) Connors MS, RN, LHRM is currently a Healthcare Clinical Strategist at Kronos

Dear Gerry,

It is often said that play is a child’s “work”. Pediatric and Neonatal nursing can be the most rewarding and most heartbreaking nursing specialty. It is a privilege to make caring for children and families one’s “work”. The emergent birth of a 1 pound newborn and the opportunity to give them a sporting chance can be your first experience of the day, followed by the preschooler diagnosed with a brain tumor. The balance of positive energy and defeat often hang delicately in the never ending balance. One thing is certain, every tiny hand you held and every parent you hugged made a difference. Strength, compassion , understanding and dedication are traits you will not learn in school, your patients will teach you that. Every one of these smallest of patients has changed my life, opened my mind and made me a better Nurse, and for that I thank each of them.
