Chris Carter MSN, MBA, RN – Early in her career

Christina Carter MSN, MBA, RN is currently a Management Consultant – Labor Analytics at Kronos

Dear Chris,

You think you have it all figured out by now. The truth is, you don’t know anything yet. The interesting thing is that it’s your patients who will teach you how to be a nurse, and more importantly, how to live your life. The sooner you open yourself to learn from them, the better off you will be. When you care for the girl who is killed by her husband over a phone bill, it will be your first lesson in “not to sweat the small stuff.” When you care for the grandmother who collapses upon arrival at the airport for a Christmas visit, you will learn to appreciate the time you have with your family. There will be many stories like these and each one of them has a lesson for you. This is the beauty of our profession – to care for others and to care for ourselves. Never once will you regret the profession that chose you. Nursing is more than a profession. It’s what you are. Be proud, stay strong and focus on what’s important.
